Applications

The main idea here is to publish each of the Portable Apps suite that I use, along with its configuration and tweaks. They are all freeware, except where otherwise stated.

Note: I use most of these applications with their Portable edition, from PortableApps.

My Favorites for each Category:

File compression: 7-zip – Can compress almost 98%, or three times more than normal zip files do on data files (xls, doc, txt), with its 7z format (on Ultra Mode).

Calculator: AllerCalc – Simple but powerful text calculator.

Change Keyboard functions: Autohotkey – Change any key function, assign macros, build powerful scripts.

Extract CDs: CD Ex – Extract songs from any CD to VBR MP3, WAV, etc. Great compression, file naming with CDDB.

File Eraser: Eraser – Erase once for all those files, overwriting them 35 times with 0 and 1! Even better than the DoD.

Image Editor: GIMP – Professional as Photoshop or Corel Draw.

Store Passwords: Keepass Keep your sensitive information very secure, and generate passwords.

Media Player: MPlayer – Media Player, excellent for movies without any special codec required.

Notepad Replacement Notepad++ – Customizable Language Highlighting, macros, and much more!
